PeerGuardian is a programme meant to maintain the security of users that use frequently P2P file exchange programmes.
When a user is connected to a P2P network, some ports are opened (depending on programme and configuration, Ares, eMule, etc.) to be able to perform connections and download or upload files.
In a badly configured system, or because of a failure of the P2P programme used, it is possible that unauthorised users get access to the computer, compromising the privacy and stability of the system.
PeerGuardian solves these security problems that come with the use of P2P applications, the programme monitors and records all connection attempts in the TCP/IP protocols and compares the range of addresses with a black list. Thanks to this mechanism it is possible to prevent unauthorised users for getting into the system.
PeerGuardian works independently of download programmes (be it Ares, eMule, LimeWire, etc.). Is a phenomenal application for all P2P network users and consumes little system resources.
